A Snapshot in Time
This photograph has always had special meaning for me. When I recently posted another photograph of my cousin and me on Facebook, she asked about this one. I said I knew I had it and I’d post it soon. It took me a few days to find it, but like I said, I knew I had it. Probably the best part is that it’s been in a little picture book of my grandmother’s called “S.O.G. with P.I.P.” Give up? It stands for “Silly Old Grandmother with Pictures In Purse.”

Why does it mean so much?
- Well, my grandfather is still alive and clearly he was interested in his granddaughters. He died later this year.
- The photographer managed to catch my cousin Jenni’s face in the photograph even though she wouldn’t look at the camera. Check the mirror.
- My mom looks happy.
- The photograph was taken at the Bismore’s house, dear cousins of ours, where I spent a lot of time over the years.
- My outfit rules.
A photograph like this one makes me think of how important it is to pose for the camera with your family as often as you can. Document these little snapshots in time because you never know when someone won’t be able to be in the next one.

Kari-
This is my favorite post of the week…of the month! It speaks to me on many levels. I was born in 1970 so I had several rockin’ outfits like yours. You look like a cute little Swiss Miss doll. I also love how you point out very special parts of the picture that a casual observer would miss.
I love your mom in this picture. It looks so much like you. She’s beautiful. And the #1 reason I love it is that my maternal Grandma had a S.O.G with P.I.P album. She passed on when I was 2 years old so I don’t remember her. BUT, my mom still has that special little album and I look at it at least once a year. So glad you shared this.

Trish,
I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone in knowing the SOG with PIP reference.
Also, I’m very happy to hear that a post like this, seemingly very personal to me, can cause the reader to ponder their own history. Love it. Thanks for commenting. - Kari
