Instragram recently became available for Android so I’ve joined the masses in utilizing this photo editing / sharing application. My first image was taken the day before Facebook bought them for a whopping $1 Billion. Wow. It is a shame that in the same breath, one can say that Kodak, the world’s original leader in photography, is going bankrupt. My how the times have changed.

So far, I’ve taken a whopping three photos with it. It really is a neat concept in that you can take the most simple, everyday item, and with a few clicks, make it worthy of taking note. I must admit that one of my photography goals is to capture these day to day things and moments without the glamor. But, if an app is what it takes to get people excited about making images and sharing them with the world, that’s fine by me.

My images thus far:

Lastly, I recently joined Pinterest. I held out on this one as long as I could. I love social media, but I don’t like things that take too much time. Read: waste too much time. So far, I find it visually stunning, and incredibly powerful in terms of sharing one’s likes, and have them shared by one’s followers, and so on, and so on. So, if you too are a “Pinner,” follow me. And, by all means, feel free to pin my blog.

I joked that I was the “calendar girl” on my Facebook page, but what that really means, is that my image of crocuses, was selected as a 2012 Calendar Contest winner for Whatcom Education Credit Union - WECU. I was thrilled when I found out I was one of the winners, and I’ve been even more thrilled to hear of Bellingham locals noticing my name on their calendars when they switched them to April a few days ago. So much fun.

Here’s what it looks like in the calendar:

And, here’s the original file:

I hope you’re enjoying spring, folks! Now is the time to look around you to see all of the colorful glories popping up after a long winter’s nap.

I love holding my point and shoot at arms’s length and taking photos of me and whoever I’m with at the time. Here are some of my latest self portraits.

The first is of my dear friend Michelle, who lives in Australia. She and I met back in 1995 at the Aloha Hostel in Paris, France. We’ve been friends and travel companions at times ever since.

This next image is of me and my love, Oliver. This photograph just makes me smile. To me, it’s more the reality of where we are in our relationship. We’re two separate people who love and respect each other, more equals than crazy love birds.

And lastly, here’s a photo of the 1995 Australia travel companions - Michelle, Krys and Kari (me) - at Pike Place Market in 2012. In the later part of 1995, the three of us drove around the eastern half of Australia in Michelle’s Mazda. If I remember correctly, we drove about 11,000 kilometers or 8,000 miles in 1 1/2 months. It was a wonderful journey up the coast, down through the Outback, along the Great Ocean Road, and then back up to Sydney via Melbourne and Canberra. Good times.

And, just for fun, here’s a cute one of my cat and her doppelgänger.
